Charles Busch on Broadway

We saw Charles Busch in his own play, Die Mommie Die, last night at the New World Stages Playhouse on 50th Street. Mr. Busch is really a genius, conjuring up the look and feel of the might stage actresses of the mid-twentieth century, including Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, and more. The staging, lighting, and sound/video effects are terrific. And he’s a master of his element. In the midst of the new stagehands strike, this show still went on. A large group of Canadian students who suddenly could not see The Grinch ended up at this venue — and we’re sure they got a little more than they bargained for. A must see.
