First, thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes. It certainly wasn’t a typical Groundhog’s Day, with record high temperatures here in New York, but I do appreciate everyone thinking of me.
My next concert with the Westchester Symphonic Winds is next Sunday, February 12 at 3:00 pm at Tarrytown Music Hall. On President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, we will perform works which retell or suggest narratives through music, starting with A Lincoln Portrait, by Aaron Copland, with guest narrator, Robert Sherman, from WQXR, New York’s Classical Music Station. Guest conducting Children’s March by Percy Aldridge Grainger will be Montclair State University’s Dr. Shelley Axelson. We will also welcome back lyric soprano soloist Kyung Hee Kim, who will be performing Un bel di from Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini.
We will also be performing Liturgical Music for Band by Martin Mailman; Dusk by Steven Bryant; Firefly by Ryan George; Snakes by Thomas C. Duffy; Sea Songs by Ralph Vaugh Williams; and …Go by Samuel R. Hazo.
Tickets to this concert can be purchased in advance at tickets.tarrytownmusichall.org or at the door. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors and students. Children under 10 are admitted free.
If you live in the area, I hope you’ll consider attending.
