The surgery went very well!

Tim was here from the day of surgery through Friday; I arrived Friday just in time to pick her up upon discharge from Lancaster General. This surgery replaced her left shoulder; she now has two replaced knees, two replaced shoulders, and two replaced ocular lenses (after cataract surgeries). I love my bionic mom!

The surgeon was very pleased with how the surgery went on Tuesday. She is in excellent spirits. She reports pain on a scale of 0-10 as 0. After a few days of reporting dizziness and low hemoglobin levels, those issues have disappeared.

The next steps

You would think that shoulder replacement surgery would completely disarm (pardon the pun) you from dressing, getting in/out of bed, and more. However, Mom is really in control of her situation. Before leaving the hospital, she practiced dressing, stepping in/out of the shower, adjusting her sling, and more with the Physical & Occupational Therapists.

The visiting and nurse and physical therapist have both visited already today. Both were amazed at how well she is doing, how independent she is, and how determined she seems. (I really do hope these traits are genetic and I inherit them.) Her follow-up blood tests, surgeon follow-up, and family doctor follow-up are already scheduled.

Thanks for the support

I know a lot of friends and family have been asking for her, and I’ve passed on your greetings. If you have a minute to call I know she’s love to hear from you. If you live in the Lancaster County area, I’m sure she’d love to see you — just give a call first. I am here through tomorrow (Sunday, March 25) but then I have to head back to White Plains and school on Monday.
